In this Receipt Hog review, we will cover how you can earn gift cards from almost every receipt, no matter the store or the brand. It’s similar to receipt scanning apps such as Fetch Rewards and ReceiptPal. And just like those apps, it’s free.
What Is Receipt Hog?
Receipt Hog is a smartphone app that offers incentives for scanning receipts. These receipts can be from restaurants, grocery stores, club stores, pet supply stores, etc. Using the data from your purchases, Receipt Hog sells this information to market research companies. This information is totally anonymous. These companies use this research to provide promotions and influence prices on the things people buy.
Accepted Receipts:
- Supermarkets
- Convenience stores
- Supercenters (Walmart, Target, etc.)
- Club stores (Sams Club, Costco, etc.)
- Liquor stores
- Dollar stores
- Pet supply stores
- Toy stores
- Drub stores
- Beauty stores
- Health stores
- Restaurants
- Mom-and-pop/bodegas
How Does It Work?
Shop as you normally do and keep the receipt. Receipts from any of the stores above can be used. In addition, you can connect online accounts such as Amazon, Walmart, Lowes, Krogers, Petco, etc. There are over 50 stores you can connect. When you open the Receipt Hog app, the app will scan your email and other connected accounts and automatically upload those receipts. Up to 20 qualifying receipts can be uploaded each week, including online receipts. Each week is based on a calendar month. Each week you upload a receipt, you earn weekly bonuses, sweepstakes entries and spins. For example, the month of March is broken into the following:
- Week 1: March 1st – March 7th
- Week 2: March 8th – March 14th
- Week 3: March 15th – March 21st
- Week 4: March 22nd – End of the Month
Slot Spins
Yes, I did say spins. Receipt Hog has a unique gamification added that rewards you with slot spins for participating receipts. When you upload receipts from clothing stores, home improvement stores, electronic stores and sporting goods stores, you earn spins. Just like a slot machine, you win coins or money for matching 3 items. For example, for matching 2 cupcakes, you can win 10 coins. Match 3 hogs to win $100. If you match 3 receipts, you are the Daily Trip Winner. Daily Trip Winners can win up to 18,000 coins.
Levels & Achievements
In addition to spins, the app has levels. Your level is based on how often you upload receipts. Each week you upload a receipt, you’ll earn 1 experience point of XP. When you reach a level, you can earn coins or spins. Another earning potential are Achievements. When you achieve a receipt goal, you can earn coins, sweepstakes entries and spins.
Sweepstakes & Surveys
For the sweepstakes, each receipt is equivalent to 1 entry for that month’s drawing. The prizes range from 5 coins to the grand prize of 50,000 coins. Winners are chosen the first of every month.
Finally, the last way to earn coins is with surveys. From time to time, you may be asked to complete a survey on a recent purchase or a survey asking demographic information. Just like the receipt data, this data is sold to market research companies.
How Does Receipt Hog Pay?
As you accumulate coins, you can use them to redeem for gift cards. There are 3 categories, Amazon, Visa and PayPal. With as little as 1000 coins, you can redeem an Amazon gift card for $5. Redeem 6500 coins for a $40 Amazon gift card. This is same for Visa gift cards and PayPal.
- 1000 coins = $5
- 2900 coins = $15
- 4300 coins = $25
- 6500 coins = $40
How Can I Get Started With Receipt Hog?
Download the Receipt Hog app in the Google Play or Apple App store. Enter the code stat6711 to earn an additional 250 coins when you upload your first receipt. When you refer someone to the app that uses your code, you’ll earn 5 spins.
Final Thoughts…
While the you can only earn coins to redeem for gift cards, you can still use it in conjunction with other apps like ReceiptPal, Receipt Hog or Ibotta. Plus, the gamification added make it fun to scan receipts.
